Michael D. Coogan is a Professor of Religious Studies at Stonehill College, a private Roman Catholic institution located in Easton, Massachusetts. He is also Director of Publications for the Harvard Semitic Museum. Coogan has taught at Stonehill College since 1985. He is the author of The Old Testament: A Very Short Introduction, and is also the editor of The New Oxford Annotated Bible (Third Edition). He is a contributor to such standard Christian reference works as The Encyclopedia of Religion, HarperCollins Bible Dictionary, and The New Jerome Biblical Commentary.[1] Coogan has also participated in and directed archaeological excavations in Israel, Jordan, Cyprus, and Egypt.
He has also conceived, edited and collaborated on other Christian theological projects, which include The Oxford Companion to the Bible, The Illustrated Guide to World Religions, and The Oxford History of the Biblical World. His most recent work is God and Sex: What the Bible really says, published in 2010. [2]

Coogan holds a doctorate in Near Eastern Languages and Literature from Harvard University.
In 2000, he received Stonehill's Distinguished Faculty Award in recognition of his scholarship and teaching.
His Christian theological courses have included Introduction to the Old Testament; Jerusalem: The Holy City; and Archaeology and the Bible.[3]
